Adoa Dennis is a dedicated public health specialist, specializing in adolescent programming, with over a decade of hands-on experience in pediatric and adolescent HIV programming. Through my extensive tenure, I’ve recognized the critical importance of tailored research interventions aimed specifically at adolescents to achieve the UNAIDS global targets of eradicating HIV by 2030.
Within the Ministry of Health, I lead the coordination of the adolescent program, notably the Young People and Adolescent Peer Support Program which serves as the cornerstone of peer to peer psychosocial support for adolescents and young people living with HIV in Uganda. My background in research is broad and focused on addressing the unique challenges encountered by adolescents and young people living with HIV in Uganda.
Currently, I serve as a co-Principal Investigator in the National YAPS Evaluation undertaken by the Ministry of Health and have previously held the position of Principal Investigator in the Adolescent Psychosocial Attrition Assessment Study (APARA). Funded by ELMA philanthropists through the Clinton Health Access Initiative, APARA aimed at developing a predictive tool for adolescent attrition from HIV care, with its findings poised to significantly influence national policies regarding adolescent care and treatment in Uganda. Additionally, I have collaborated on other notable studies, including the ART Optimization study in Uganda.
I am currently a member of the organizing committee for the IPHASA and PAHLCA
